Tante Lenie’s Stoofpotje

A traditional Dutch dish!

leftover roast or raw stewing beef *
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp butter
3 onions, chopped
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 can of tomato paste
1 tsp red hot pepper
1 beef bouillon cube
1/4 cup sweet soy sauce (Ketjap)
boiling water
lemon slices, optional
  1. Cut leftover meat or stewing beef into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil and butter until brown.
  3. Add the meat and onions.
  4. When brown, add the rest of the ingredients and let simmer for approximately 3 hours.
  5. Serve with vegetables and mashed potatoes.

* This can be made with stewing beef or leftover roast. This recipe is for raw stewing meat. If using leftover roast, it does not have to simmer as long.
